Pigment Studio Acrylic Set: a five-star box at a three-star price
Forty-eight tubes, gallery-grade pigment load, and a price that made us check the label twice. We painted with nothing else for a month.
On the canvas
Coverage is the headline: single-coat opacity on primed canvas for all but the three most transparent earth tones, and clean, even gradations when thinned for washes. Colors mix true — the magenta and cyan behave like proper primaries, so the set genuinely mixes into any hue you need rather than collapsing into mud.
Drying time sits in the sweet spot at around twenty minutes to touch, and the dried finish is a consistent satin across colors, which matters more than it sounds when you varnish.
Who should buy it
- Beginners get pro behavior at a student price — no fighting chalky paint while learning.
- Working artists get dependable studio workhorses for underpainting and large areas.
- The storage box is sturdy enough to survive classes, workshops and car boots.
What we liked
- True single-coat coverage

The verdict
Rarely does the cheapest serious option also turn out to be the best. The Pigment Studio set embarrasses paints at three times the price. An easy, enthusiastic 5 out of 5.
